Product Details
+This is a one of a kind piece of wearable art made for the Five and Diamond Eleventh Annual Headgear Art Show and shown on June 16, 2023 in San Francisco.
ARTIST: Neon Zinn
LOCATED IN: New Orleans, Louisiana
DESCRIPTION:
Over the past few years I have been using the opportunity of Mardi Gras to create costumes that push the limits of my technical abilities with rope. This year I made a headpiece/mask from one long strand of rope (approximately 90 ft. total) dyed ahead of time and then "woven" into a 3 dimensional form where each side mirrored the other until the collective shapes worked as a whole. This years headgear submission was made in a similar improvisational manner, and there is something feline and powerful that revealed itself in the bound lines of rope.
MATERIALS USED:
cotton rope and cotton yarn
WEARING INSTRUCTIONS:
The best place to hold it is from the top, sliding your face in through the opening in the back, and adjusting placement of eyes and nose by gripping the front and moving it into a comfortable position. The piece is structurally strong but is also soft and flexible so there is plenty of wiggle room. Further adjustments can be made once the eyes and nose are situated in the front openings. Feel free to gently stretch and move the shapes around the top and sides, if they easily move.
